Coal Study Unit Program
Grant money and educational materials are made available to teachers for the creation and implementation of a study unit based on coal. To give incentive for participation, and recognition for performance, CEDAR awards cash prizes to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each grade level of K-4, 5-8 and 9-12. Regional Coal Fair
Students are invited to enter coal projects in one of the following categories: Science, Math, English-Literature, Art, Music, Technology-Multi Media or Social Studies to be judged in grade levels K-4, 5-8 and 9-12. These projects are displayed and judged at their school's local fair, with selected projects being invited to participate in the regional fair, where 63 cash prizes are awarded to category winners, and nine additional cash prizes being awarded to the overall grade level winners. Coal Fair Coordinator's Program
This program rewards Coal Fair Coordinators for excellence in performing their duties. The coordinator, who is appointed by the principal, is asked to organize and implement a coal fair at their school, giving all students the opportunity to participate. CEDAR provides the entry guidelines and judging criteria with the coordinator being responsible for all aspects of their school fair. After the school winners are determined, it is the coordinator's responsibility to manage all aspect of their school's participation in the regional coal fair. Each coordinator is rated Ona scoring system with cash prizes awarded to the top three.

CEDAR in partnership with Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College (SWVCTC) and the West Virginia Development Office offer ten (10) $1,000 scholarship to students from the participating counties to be used at a SWVCTC campus.
